POS Application for Food Services Passes New, More Rigorous Security Test
Minneapolis, May 14, 2009 — NetSPI, a leading information-security consulting firm, has been working with Squirrel Systems to ensure that its restaurant point-of-sale solutions comply with the latest security standard known as the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS).
PA-DSS requires a new, more rigorous certification process to ensure that secure payment applications do not store prohibited cardholder data and are compliant with the overall PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
Squirrel Systems, a technology leader in restaurant point-of-sale systems, selected NetSPI to ensure that the Squirrel point-of-sale application complies with the PA-DSS best practices.
"Payment security is a top priority for Squirrel and why we came out of the gate with a strong encryption security foundation," said Joe Cortese, VP R&D at Squirrel Systems. "NetSPI was efficient and timely throughout the intense process, providing guidance and support to our team."
NetSPI, a Payment Application Qualified Security Assessor (PA-QSA), tested Squirrel's version 1.55 against the 14 requirements of Version 1.2 of the PA-DSS. The tests were successful, and NetSPI certified the application as compliant and acceptable for new deployments.
Seth Peter, NetSPI CTO, said that "We are happy to help Squirrel Systems in this successful effort to validate its payment application. That in turn helps its customers comply with this important security standard."
